Time to say goodbye.
by Lazlo WoodbineAfter 8 years on this site (that long) I will be leaving after my last organised event. Sorry to leave but most of the people I have met in that time have left and the new people don't seem to want to join in group activities. There used to be 4 pages of events on the site, but all things come to an end. I leave with good memories of some great weeks and weekends away in the hills of Britain and overseas. While on this site I have walked in 13 different countries and seen magnificent scenery, as well as having a great social life. Fortunately I am still in touch with many of my fellow travelers so can carry on with my adventures.

Hi Doug,
JohnH on 30/10/23 @ 19:58I'll be sorry to see you go and a big thank you for all the trips that you've organised.
We've got each others contact details so I hope that we can keep in touch.
I'm hoping that come the Spring there will be more Invitations and activity on the site.
All the best, John.
Loved having your witticism on posts and glad we met on the Hope saunter. Going to do one last post for your comments.🍺
sparky on 31/10/23 @ 9:52Your activities and your jollity have been much appreciated. Why things never quite picked up again after you -know-what has been a bit of a mystery despite many new members arriving, though just not taking part. Keep up the adventures and enjoy every sunrise. 🙂🌄
Site Admin on 31/10/23 @ 15:21Steve
I’m saying bye bye too. Thank you for all the company and the very many outdoor ( and indoor escapades ) it’s been a blast but not like it used to be.
DaDale on 05/11/23 @ 11:32Steve (site admin) your idea for getting people together on invitations to allow friendships or romances to grow was perfect. This worked really well for me and I have much to thank this site for.
Lazlo, well what can I say? You have inspired, collected people together and spent so much of your time organising trips. If I can remember them all ?? I joined you in Cyprus, in Tuscany, on the North Wales Coastal path, St Oswalds Way and St Cuthberts way and many many day hikes. Thank you x
Dear Lazio
FiFid on 05/11/23 @ 15:16Great to meet you a few times once in the Peaks another in Wales. Maybe your remember I rocked on the machine! So hope your still helping people with the maths. You are deffinately a Warrior. If your ever in N Wales area or Liverpool welcome to message me and investigate some culture somewhere. Fid
Best wishes, Lazlo.
on 06/11/23 @ 20:09We met a couple of times in 2019, and I have happy memories of the Winster weekend, where I believe I pitched my tent next to yours. I don't think you were walking with us on the Friday evening though (watching a football match?), when I was very grateful to be able to follow Derek (HPM) back to the pub campsite in the dark (due to traffic issues, I hadn't had time to erect my tent before we set off) while the others decided to have another pub stop 😮 - we'd already had one and, to the best of my recollection, the walk was only about 7 miles in length!
Best wishes to you too, Dale.
on 06/11/23 @ 20:17I think we met only once - on Glyn's Hulme End walk in 2019. If I remember correctly, we were sitting next to each other in the pub at the end (there seems to be a recurring theme of pubs in what I'm writing on this thread, and I'm almost teetotal 😂).
I'm staying on the site, primarily to keep an eye out for any suitable invites to ascend English or Welsh mountains. However, I only subscribe on an ad-hoc basis, when I have reason to (eg, in relation to an invite or if someone is mad enough to send me a message 😮).
M1M1960 on 06/11/23 @ 20:37Regarding the lack of invites on here, as I have said previously, I could lead a walk around Reigate (although I'm not particularly eager to do so) – if anyone is interested, please suggest a date and say how far you would like to walk (I'm retired, and available almost anywhen). Or, if anyone posts an invite for a walk fairly local to me and there is little or no interest, I'll come along to make up the numbers if I'm free.
Awwww...Sorry to see you leaving...
on 07/11/23 @ 17:57We met twice on walks in North Yorkshire.
I always looked at your invites with envy....
All the work and planning you did put in...must have been very stressful sometimes.
Wishing you well....in your continuing walking adventures 🤗😉x
M1960: Same here...
BPBea (Pebbles) on 07/11/23 @ 18:02I am staying on this site.....because I do enjoy speaking to our OD peeps on here....
I know things have changed ....I been on here now for over 10 years ....but I love the concept and the idea...Steve our admin, created this OD site .....in the first place.
It's us as members to make it more fun and interact with each other....
I hope the picture with me and the " seamonster" ....put some smiles on some faces 🤗
Bea (Pebbles): I loved the sea monster photo. I hope the people you've met on the site have been a bit better than that!
on 10/11/23 @ 15:25Dale: I'm sorry to see you go ☹, its certainly been a while you've been with us. I am glad the site worked for you. Its all about chnging lives for the better, so it sounds like success atleast 🙂👍
on 10/11/23 @ 15:28M1960: Just post an invite and see who bites.
Site Admin on 10/11/23 @ 15:30Thanks for those lovely messages. It’s like hearing the things said at your own funeral without being dead 😂
LWLazlo Woodbine on 10/11/23 @ 20:13What Lazlo, you're not dead 😂😂
JohnH on 10/11/23 @ 21:04Joking aside, please keep in touch and I hope that we can meet up again. And, even if you're not in OD then you'd be very welcome to join my Arran 2024 trip,
All the best, cheers, John.
Site Admin: thanks for your comment, it’s been about 7/8 years. I’ve attended many invitations and put a fair few on myself but time to go now. Certainly a success and I treasure my 4 photo competition winning mugs 😂😂 thank you. I wish you and your OD site well.
on 13/11/23 @ 22:41M1960: thank you so much, you are correct 😄 I wish you well too
DaDale on 16/11/23 @ 12:22Dale: 🙂
M1M1960 on 16/11/23 @ 23:17Sorry to see you leave Doug but thanks for all the invites, the walks and particularly trips abroad. Happy times in Pompeii, Sicily, Menorca, plus UK meets😀. All best wishes 👍
JaJanhk on 20/11/23 @ 16:19I’m sorry to see you leave as well Doug. Joining OD and going on that first trip abroad with you to Majorca was for me life changing. I met some lovely people that have become firm friends☺️ See you soon😉
on 21/11/23 @ 14:08Dale: you’ll be very much missed on this site - your photos were legendary!! See you early next year🤞🥂xxx
GlGlyn2 on 21/11/23 @ 14:15Glyn2: love you, love your comment xx
DaDale on 21/11/23 @ 15:22Dale: ❤️
GlGlyn2 on 21/11/23 @ 22:06So sorry to see this post. I joined last summer and life has just stopped me from getting to check the site and get out as I would have liked. I really Enjoyed the Hope walk I attended and it had been very much on my mid to get back to the site.
Naturehiker on 03/02/24 @ 6:34Unlike many, my appetite for walking only increases through the winter and having just returned from a month in Canada, I was expecting the site to have quietened over the winter, but it is a dramatic change.
I will keep checking in the hopes of more Hopes.
Thank you to all of the lovely people who made me so welcome on my first event.
Sorry to hear your leaving Doug. I haven't been on the site much lately either but find it hard to give up altogether. I've enjoyed your trips and company. Take care x
