New Members, take part in Invitations
by JohnHI know that there's not a lot of Invitations going up on the site but I've also noticed that there's a steady stream of new members joining OD.
A wee bit of advice for new members, joining an invitation for a day out or a weekend or whatever is a great way to meet like minded people without being under any pressure, unlike the candle lit dinner when half way through your soup you wonder why the heck are you there and climb out the toilet window to escape !!!😂😂 Seriously though, Invitations are a great way to meet other people and if you don't meet that someone special then you can still make great new like minded friends.
And while I'm at it why don't more of the new members put up Invitations to suit themselves and see who comes along, and that goes too for all members.

JohnH: yes, invitations are a great way to meet people, with no pressure (or climbing out the toilet window!), but everyone is different and not all are looking for the same thing from OD.
on 05/07/24 @ 12:15Invitations are also an opportunity to meet people from other areas, though the current cost of fuel makes this harder now, and a number of members have met (& in some cases, married) partners not local to them.
Members who have joined post-Covid have not had the opportunity to see OD as it used to be
with day walks, weekend and purely social
invitations.
But nothing can stay the same forever and life has changed for all of us in the past few years.
New members may not wish to post their own invitations, but they are always welcome to join in other people's, and I am looking forward to meeting Kurly Karl and HikeSki tomorrow.
gegem1000 on 05/07/24 @ 12:20Hi Gem1000, good points and they reflect some of the points that I'd made on the previous forum. Finance is certainly a problem.
JohnH on 05/07/24 @ 13:02The only thing that's certain is that things change and new members are maybe looking for things in a different way that we did in the past.
Anyhoo, for me it would be a great shame if OD Invitations fell into dissuse.
I hope that your walk goes well tomorrow and that the weather is kind to you.
Take care, john.
I am a new member and only joined a few hours ago. I am the founder member of WOWsingles walking group in Oxfordshire, but stepped down as the leader when I thought I was moving away from Oxfordshire to Cornwall. I am still in Oxfordshire, but will be moving soon, I think! Hopefully there will be groups in Cornwall, but if not I will just have to start one. I do have to be a bit carefull nowadays as I have an old knee injury ( not that it stops me) flare up, so gently does it and lots of strapping. I am very much looking forward to my first walk and of meeting new people and making new friends.
Penygy-ow on 12/07/24 @ 18:51Penygy-ow: Welcome to our group.
lalandranger68 on 13/07/24 @ 8:24Penygy-ow, and another welcome to the group. Though once you move to Cornwall you'll be at the other end of several countries from me it would be nice to meet up on some invitation, take care, John.
