Hi Steven,Have you posted an invite to lead a Walk,it takes time to know someone,but there is a lot of laughter along the way with wet and glorious mud.
with all god wishes.
Without doubt this site is no longer the vibrant portal it once was.
Of course many (most?) back then were simply looking for like minded people to do things with. Of course relatinships did blossom for some but maybe more importantly for many was that friendships were established and still maintained, whether on here or 'off-line'.
Many events were well attended (40+) by both regular and new members.
Regarding the cost it deends how you look at things.
If you are doing things anyway it is poor value especially if you have the responsibility of organising and 'leading'.......tbc

If you are joining an event someone else has put on then even £5 per walk/event is a bargain. Maybe not enough attendees or enough events that appeal. who knows.
Great shame but it does seem a downward decline.Maybe fees should be waived for those putting on events (day 4 per year) or a 'leader membership ' available?
I had many good times, put on many events etc but I also do things on other sites and with friends and have less free time so could not sustain it.`
Maybe I will put on an event for November 2025 in Borrowdale, ....(trailer alert!!!)

My suggestion is you join something like the Ramblers, I do regular 20 mile walks around here with plenty of up and down, often 40 people with a good mix of gender just we don't ever find a mountain top! And that's us soft southerners, so I'm sure there will be something up your way. But you might need to travel some distance to meet the person that's right for you. Your town has under 7,000 residents, gone are the days a girl will settle for who she meets in the village barn dance, they're fussy these days.
And keep a cool head. And make sure that whatever you do to search is what you enjoy doing....

But, believe it or not, there was a guy at my last bike ride, overnight to Malden in Essex, with a gorgeous Springer Spaniel bitch on a cargo bike. That is the Fridays cycle club, and they ride once a month overnight from city to sea. https://www.fnrttc.org.uk/
