I'm travelling up in the camper via Horton Thursday/Friday (sleeping/lift for male/female available)
Weather dependant, would anyone like to do a Saturday walk as well, 10 miles or less?
Possibly the Cathedral in Little Langdale and Weatherlam and some have mentioned the Old Man (no comments!)
Nick

I,m booked into the CAMC site at Troutbeck for the Saturday night, however I'm not sure yet when I can travel down on the Saturday, so I may be up for a walk later in the day, but as I've said I've still got things to sort out before I know when I'll be travelling down, cheers, John.
JohnH on 01/10/24 @ 16:51Still trying to be kind to my knee but coped with 12 to 15 miles each day round the channel islands coast path over 10 days. I need to get back to Keswick as going to theatre at 7.30pm.
Wild Adventuress on 01/10/24 @ 18:04Wild Adventuress: Any preference for somewhere to meet? Coppermines Valley YHA for the Old Man or Tilberthwaite for Cathedral Weatherlam for example?
on 01/10/24 @ 19:37JohnH: JohnH: OK- that site is too expensive for me, even if they had space. It'd be good to meet up for a meal on Saturday. There's a pub in Troutbeck
SMSaltyMcSaltface on 01/10/24 @ 20:47SaltyMcSaltface: no preference but maybe see what weather forecast is like nearer the time? Somewhere with easy parking!!! 😀
Wild Adventuress on 01/10/24 @ 21:05SaltyMcSaltface: that could be a possibility, there's also the Royal Hotel at Dockray which does decent bar meals.
JohnH on 02/10/24 @ 8:20I'm a member of the CAMC so the members price is £23 per night which is really good for the Lake District and their facilities are excellent.
Let's see what the weather forecast is for Saturday, however with the osteoarthritis in my left knee, The Old Man of Coniston would be too steep up and down for me even with my painkillers, the Cathedral would be better for me
Here's a plan for the Cathedral, lower Weatherlam, Saturday- a five miler, some up and down to contend with. Check it out.
SMSaltyMcSaltface on 02/10/24 @ 8:44Always possible to modify for weather and walkers needs!
Free parking (can be busy) marked.
🌧SaltyMcSaltface: sounds like a, plan. I'll be slow on the downs! What time do you suggest meeting?
Wild Adventuress on 02/10/24 @ 14:34Hi All, the 5 miler looks good for me. Can I suggest that we meet ready to start at 2pm, that would give us a good afternoon's walk and finished ready for a meal or coffee and cake or whatever. Also a 2pm start gives me time to travel down, book into the site, get my pitch then it doesn't matter what time that I get back to the site. And since it's after lunch then we wouldn't really need to carry anything for the walk.
JohnH on 02/10/24 @ 14:39As I've said, it's just a suggestion that suits me, what does anyone else think of it 🤔
I have to be back home to get changed and get to theatre by 7pm so 2pm start for a hike would be much too late for me I think and I'd be kind of waiting at home to drive down all morning. It's a way to drive back here then wash and change and go out again.
Wild Adventuress on 02/10/24 @ 18:59SaltyMcSaltface: do you mean meet at lower Wetherlam? I can't see a road there, I must be looking at the wrong place. I'd like to come along if I can get close enough by bus. I agree with Adventuress, 2 would be too late as I'd need to get the bus back too.
boboatgirl on 02/10/24 @ 19:46Thinking of a 10:30 start- What's the latest you could start Penny?Struggling to upload a location map. Google Hodge Close Quarry for the start.
on 02/10/24 @ 21:28boatgirl: Not planning on topping out Weatherlam, click on the link in the invite to see parking and route
SMSaltyMcSaltface on 02/10/24 @ 21:29A 10:30 start is too early for me, if that's what suits everyone else then it's no problem, I'll just see what I can do.
JohnH on 02/10/24 @ 21:33SaltyMcSaltface: 1030 is fine for me.
Wild Adventuress on 02/10/24 @ 21:54as per the WhatsApp are we starting at 11am now, if so then I can make that
JohnH on 03/10/24 @ 7:18boatgirl: I can collect/return you to Coniston Village if helpful, any time 9/10:30

Wild Adventuress: now that it's 11am I could come down through Keswick and give you a lift if you want. Let me know one way or the other
JohnH on 03/10/24 @ 18:02JohnH: Thanks John but I need to dash back afterwards so probably easier in my own car. Reducing vehicle numbers might help with parking though.....
Wild Adventuress on 04/10/24 @ 18:52Wild Adventuress: I'll be driving down in the morning, I intend to get on the road by 7am, then stop part of the way down to get my breakfast.
JohnH on 04/10/24 @ 19:48Re dashing back, I won't be hanging about as I'll still have to book into the CAMC site at Troutbeck. Anyhoo, unless I hear from you I'll see you at the start
I'm just looking at the map now. Of course anyone else is welcome to join me at theatre by the lake concert in Keswick tomorrow night, but think it may be a sell out as its raising money for the local cricket club.
on 04/10/24 @ 20:22Weather looks great tmrw apart from wind! 🌞
on 04/10/24 @ 20:26JohnH: I think it would be a good idea to minimise vehicles parking at Hodge Close in case it's busy. Looking at the route you'll be taking, could I possibly meet you at Legburthwaite where there is free parking by the A591 near northern end of Thirlmere. I expect you will be travelling through St John's in the Vale. When you hit the 591 the parking is about 150m if you turn right towards Keswick. Does that sound okay? If so please could you let me know when you get to Penrith so I can drive to meet you. Thanks 😀
on 04/10/24 @ 20:52Excellent introduction to easy caving (including wading through boot high water!😂) and great hike in sunshine!
Wild Adventuress on 06/10/24 @ 23:56Thanks Nick 😀
Great company- really enjoyed the day- N.
SMSaltyMcSaltface on 07/10/24 @ 14:40Thanks Nick, it was a great day
