Time to say goodbye
After 11 years the time has come to say goodbye.
I doubt there are many left from the 'Old Days' but for those that I have walked with, shared a weekend or have just exchanged comments on the forum, then I would just like to say thank you for making OD such a wonderful experience.
The 2011 Barmouth Bash and the South Downs weekends of 2012 & 2013 were an absolute joy.
Happy Walking everyone.
John

Hi Ellie walker, our paths never crossed, shame we never met.
Guess all good things come to an end.
Site Admin. I have so much to thank OD for, I'm sure that I'm not the only one.
Hi Tina.
Hopefully catch up with you in the Lakes one year.
Hi Jan, yep, sure we will meet up locally soon.
Please don't anymore of you "oldies" (on the site I mean, not age!) leave the site, it's important to have links with the past. The memories, camaraderie and support are invaluable. I know it's changed since COVID but so have lots of things and in a way that makes the 'OD family' even more important
Site Admin: 😮 Perhaps you should have put that on the 'Land of Dracula' thread!
As I said, I'm available almost anywhen (preferably during the day, although any vampires out there would obviously prefer a night walk), so it seems sensible to let someone suggest a date (and distance) before I sink my teeth into planning a route and post an invite. I could lead more than one walk, or the same walk more than once, if necessary.
Janhk: Sadly Covid seems to have slowed group activities across the UK, not just OD. Things are picking up slowly.
M1960: Just pop up an Invite and see who bites 🙂
Hi John,
I'm glad OD has produced good friends and memories. Thats what life is about IMO. You were one of our very early members and its been good to have you with us. Keep up the good walking.
Steve
Hi John, I'm thinking of doing the same. It's been 10 years, I've made some great friends and had some fun/interesting/adventurous times but now I live in Cumbria I'm reluctant to go anywhere else and rarely visit this site. I won't be doing Beachy Head Marathon again (!) but you never know, our paths may well cross again.
Loads of luck to you John. We didn't meet often, but I found you to be a real gentleman who always treated everyone beautifully. My experience of OD has also been fabulous and you were part of that ... thank you x Jonathan
Further to what Janhk has posted above, I could lead a walk around Reigate (as I have said previously in threads on the forum). I'm retired and available almost anywhen – if anyone is interested, please suggest a date and say how far you would like to walk.
Goodbye John.
We never met, but I been on here since 2012....
I do remember the early OD days ..🙂
Wishing you all the best 😊
Sorry to see you leave but then there's not much on OD now sadly. Hope to see you and Alison on a walk or elsewhere sometime xx
Thanks Landranger. Think we kept missing each other on the weekend meet ups. I used to enjoy reading your long walk adventures.
Thanks Debbie, yes, it has been a great adventure.
Hi Martyn, still remember the Barmouth weekend with great fondness.
Hope all is well with you.
Hi John.My journey with OD began in 2011 and enjoyed the weekend Meets,Also no one can keep the old goat tethered. With all good wishes ,wherever your journey takes you.🙂
Hi John ... lovely words. The 2012 South Downs invite was amazing, thank you.
I don't think I'll be far behind you saying goodbye to OD. I've made life long friendships and had the best adventures so I'll always be extremely grateful to this site.
Best wishes to you and the family x
JW: I've sent the message. 🙂
Hi Mark
Good to hear from you, yes, that was a good night walk over the Seven Sisters.
Please message me, would be good to have your details.
I am in touch with most if the Southern OD members and still need up occasional.
Hi John,
I joined OD in 2015. I have fond memories of your Night and Day Walk from Eastbourne to Lewes in 2016, with the sunrise breakfast barbecue that you kindly arranged partway. If I remember correctly, you were on the Christmas walk that year too.
You haven't said why you are leaving OD, but if you want to stay in touch I will PM you my contact details.
With thanks and best wishes,
Mark
